Bridge St Garage

Wednesday, 14 May 2014

We heard about this place from a friend of ours. She's American and is always on the lookout for great American style restaurants.
The place was packed out on a Friday night. The front of the restaurant was deck out with high tables and tall bar stools giving it more of a bar feeling and closer to the back of the restaurant were booths and normal height tables.
image
Entrees! A must try with American style places is buffalo wings! These are spicy chicken wings with a sticky coating of BBQ sauce served with a blue cheese sauce. These were pretty mild in comparison to some other places I didn't need the cheese sauce as much to bring down the spiciness.
image
Garage Buffalo Wings ($15)
There were about 6 wings, the boys were too hungry I didn't get my camera out fast enough :).
We also also ordered the guacamole with corn chips ($13.50) and the lamb lollipops ($22). The guacamole was nice but nothing really special. The lamb lollipops were really nice, cooked just right, it was succulent and went really well with the chimichurri sauce. Not sure if it really worth the $22 but worth a try if you really love lamb.
image
Sticky pork ribs ($36)
Next up our mains! K ordered the sticky probably ribs, his endless quest for the best ribs. They were nice, pretty tasty and the salad was nice too. It was the best ribs we've had and the portion could have been a little bigger.
image
Gaucho Burger ($19.50)
The burgers come with some incredible wedges/ hand-cut potato, they're crunchy on the inside and soft on the inside. The Gaucho burger was tasty with a nice juicy patty and I love their tasty chimichurri sauce.
image
New York cut steak ($32)
New York cut steak, it looked good and my friend said they cooked it really well. He finished it.pretty.quickly and.as you can see he was pretty much about to start as I was snapping a photo.
image
Sweet potato chips ($9)
image
Onion rings ($8)
We ordered 2 sides. They were both covered in the most delicious beer batter.
image
Deep-fried southern crispy chicken ($22)
Now my dish, Deep-fried southern crispy chicken, ohh so good but so bad. I could not get enough of this batter it was delicious and it wasn't overly oily. It came with 4 pieces of deep fried chickeny goodness. The coleslaw side was great for breaking it up as it was getting to be a bit much after two pieces. As much as I wanted to, I could not finish all the chicken. I was getting pretty full and we still had dessert coming.
image
Trio of ice cream ($9)
There were 4 dessert items on the menu and they all sounded great so we got one of each and shared.
The trio of ice cream flavours were vanilla strawberry and mango. That mango ice cream was the best! It tasted like a weiss bar.
image
New York cheesecake ($12)
The cheesecake was nice. I would've like it to be a little bit more moist but it was fine.
image
American apple pie ($12)
Apple pie is a little hit and miss with me I generally like sweeter apples so this one was a little bit too tart for me. The raspberry sauce didn't help with that. So of you don't like things too sour either I'd have it without the berries.
image
Garage brownie ($10)

And the best for last the garage brownie. This was my favourite dessert. The brownie was warm and chocolatey with just the right amount of nuts. The rhubarb ice cream was really light and complimented the chocolate really well.
image
I'd like to try a few other things on the menu, like the pulled pork and fish tacos, so we'll definitely be paying this place another visit.
image
I love all the art on the walls and the little details like servicing our bill in a piston and the exposed copper piping in the bathroom.
image
And it wouldn't be a garage without cars.

Pork Rolls - Meadowbank

Wednesday, 25 July 2012

A little gem we found a few years ago in meadowbank. The little bread shop underneath the apartments serves the best pork rolls you can get. Even compared to the pork rolls you can get in cabramatta I'd save myself the trip and go to to this place.

The pork rolls are $4 each, it's packed full of three kinds of pork, pickled carrot, cucumber, lettuce, fried onion and soy sauce. The rolls a so huge by the time the ladies are finished making them that they wrap the ends up in cling wrap before serving it in the bag.

Parramatta Pheonix

Thursday, 5 July 2012

Phoenix in parramatta is open where the Borders used to be, level 5 towards the cinema. The place hasn't gotten much traction yet it's still quiet even at peak times. We've tried it out twice and found that it had improved the second time round.

To make sure we had a base for comparison we got our favourites ;).

What I like to call the footballs. Savory mince wrapped around a sweet mochi like skin and a crispy shell.

Glazed char siew buns, kens favourite.

Prawn in rice noodle sheets

Chicken and sticky rice, wrapped in a banana leaf.

Vege dumplings and prawn dumplings

Chicken feet

Egg tarts

Salt and paper squid

Desserts! Watermelon and jelly and silky tofu. Yum yum :)

The food isn't bad though not as good as the rhodes branch. The only thing we found a little annoying is that the cart servers were really trying to up sell their wares.

Other then that it was a pleasant experience.

Miss Chu Tuck Shop - Townhall

Tuesday, 3 July 2012

Miss Chu tuck shop serves vietnamese style food. It is a place originally started up in Melbourne and now has opened up 4 places around Sydney's CBD. It has been described as a modern day hawker style take away place.

It was nicely decorated place with large chalk menus, stools seating around the shop and I especially loved that they had iPhone chargers in that seating area so you can charge your phone while you eat.

For larger group seating they had repurposed ironing boards and folding stools. I liked that the place had a quirky feel to it and a touch of family background.

We had to order the pho ($14)! It was cold and what better way to trial out a vietnamese place then to test the pho. It was good, not to salty and not too watery, a nice broth and meat mixture.

Free range chicken hanoi curry ($15). I loved the pho but when I had the curry it was definitely my favorite of the two. It tasted just like how my mum makes it. The potatoes are cooked so they are soft through but still hold its shape, the chicken is moist and the curry soup is slightly chilli, just to give it a nice kick.

We tried the pineapple and mint frozen young coconut juice ($7.5). It was a nice twist on an old favorite.

The place was nice and very authentic but a little price for the portions. Next time we might try the rice paper rolls, they good call Miss Chu the queen rice paper rolls.

Tonkichi - Causeway Bay

Thursday, 7 June 2012

My sister took me to causeway bay to have a look around and do some shopping at forever 21. We got to the store in the afternoon and didn't leave til 3 hrs later. The store was huge! It was 6 floors of clothes (ladies and a small kids section), shoes, accessories, lingerie and we even skipped one of the floors.

There were some nice clothes and it is definitely one of those stores that you have to go through a few times because you miss stuff the first time. It was very busy, I'd hate to go there on a weekend, you'd probably spend ages in line waiting for the change room and then waiting to pay.

Since we spent such a long time at the store it was a little too late to go home for dinner. My sister took me to a nice tonkatsu place called Tonkichi. My nephew loves the tonkatsu from this place and kept asking for it the next day as well.

We ordered the tonkatsu set for three and it was massive!

The set included pork, a pork medallion, prawns and oysters fried to crispy golden goodness. Salad, miso soup, rice, sesame seeds that you can crush and add bulldog sauce to and an assortment of other accompaniments.

The tartar sauce to go with the oysters tasted just like the fillet o fish sauce from McDonald's.

When the dishes came out we didn't think we could finish it but we managed to finish all of it. My niece ate almost a whole bowl of rice! ( she only 1 yrs old) and my nephew ( 3 y.o.) ate a portion probably only slightly smaller then each of us.

It was delicious!

High Tea at Pennisula hotel

Friday, 1 June 2012

Recommended as one of the best high tea places in Hong Kong, The Lobby, located in the lobby (hehe) of The Pennisula Hotel was a must try.

We walked there from ocean terminal shopping centre ( the long way in 31 degree heat. Thanks sis!). The hotel was very nice with very high ceilings, beautifully kept stone carved features and surrounded by expensive shops all around in the Pennisula arcade.

There was a line but we only waited for 10 minutes before a table was ready.

We ordered a classic afternoon tea for two! ($528 HKD)

My sis got the Pennisula afternoon tea and I got the Assam tea.

The food came out really quickly and it looked delicious!

So much food it was delicious, luckily my little nephew eats a lot so he helped us finish the entire 3 tier platter :)

After we finished they brought us a refreshing pineapple panacotta.
